Classroom Collaborations

Whether you’re looking for an impactful one-time project-based learning experience, regular visits to teach students a specialized makerspace skill, or expert support for student-driven projects, The STEAM Engine is here to help!

We help schools build their hands-on, project-based learning capacity, in just about every form. Here a couple of the most popular options:

  1. One-time classroom visits: I lead a ~2 hour hands-on project focused on building students’ digital literacy, problem-solving, and creativity. Some examples of projects are 3D-Printed Maze Toys, Robotic Claw Rapid Prototyping, and Laser-Cut Jewelry.

  2. On-going lessons: I lead a series of 1-2 hour projects, focused on a particular STEM skill or theme. I can offer any of my after-school classes during the school day, or curate a set of projects for you around a topic like “3D Printing”, “Environmental Engineering”, or “Art and Technology”.

  3. Support student-driven projects: Maybe your school is already deeply involved in project-based learning, but your students are outpacing your resources. If your students’ projects would be enhanced by 3D-printers, electronics, or other makerspace equipment, I would love to help them reach that potential! I can bring my mobile makerspace to campus and coach students through technical and design obstacles, as well as teach (and supervise) them to use the makerspace equipment. If you have some equipment of your own but are struggling with a lack of in-house expertise, I also offer training for teachers and staff.

FAQs

  • Prices depend on the length of time, number of students, and material cost for a project. As a very general ballpark, most projects fall somewhere in the range of $150-300, but please contact us for details.

  • Generally no more than 10 for students in grades 4-7, and no more than 18 for grades 8-12. For typical class sizes, we recommend rotating through 2 or 3 groups. If your group is right on the edge (a class of 19 tenth graders, for example), we may be able to accommodate depending on the project.

  • The STEAM Engine is a mobile makerspace based in Everett, WA. We serve most parts of Snohomish and King counties.
