FAQs

  • Nope! This class is completely beginner friendly. We will work up from the basics and don't expect students to have any previous experience.

  • We'll be reusing the same components from week to week, so unfortunately students will not be able to take home their projects. Our final project, adaptive video game controllers, will be donated to Seattle Childrens' Hospital.

  • Nope! The $325 course registration fee includes all the materials we will be using, and there are no additional fees.

That said, students will not get to take home the Arduino kits (they'll be reused for future classes). Kits cost around $100, so most families prefer for their student to take the class first, then invest in their own kit later on if it's something they want to continue to pursue.

  • Yes! Let me know in advance what you need the hours for, and if our project aligns with your requirement I'm happy to sign off on community service hours for the final project. I expect we'll spend about 8 hours total on it.

  • All the projects will build on the skills we cover in the first few weeks, and many projects will take multiple weeks to complete. If you know there are certain days your student will need to skip, please let me know and we can figure out whether it makes sense for them to take this class this semester.

If your student needs to miss class unexpectedly, let me know and I'll do my best to help them catch up, which may require making up some work between sessions.

  • Your child does not need to be a student at Kamiak to take this class! As long as they have transportation to the class, all high school students are welcome to sign up.
